Test Drive makes trip to Italy
Italian broadcaster RTI Mediaset has acquired BBC Scotland’s motoring gameshow format Test Drive, in a deal with UK-based distributor Magnify Media.
The original format sees three teams of two embark on a road trip to a mystery destination. Along the way, the contestants must answer questions from a specially adapted GPS.
The right answer will direct them to the correct destination along the shortest route. A wrong answer will detour the team and add miles to their trip. The winning team is the one with the lowest mileage on the clock by the end of the trip.
The new Italian adaptation will be an 8×30’ series called NCC-Navigazione Con Conduttore and is set to air in January 2020. The deal marks the format’s first international sale.
The original format is a Bandicoot production for BBC Scotland.
Andrea Jackson, CEO of Magnify Media, said: “Test Drive is a fresh and funny take on the gameshow format, and it’s also the perfect show for any country that has great landscapes to share, which is true of both Scotland and Italy. I’m optimistic that NCC – Navigazione con Conduttore will be the first of many local versions on Test Drive’s road trip to success.”
