An award-winning intimate and deeply personal film, journalist Kate Garraway documents her emotional journey as her husband battles Covid.

On 30th March 2020 Derek Draper was admitted to hospital with Covid-19. One year later he is still not home.

In this heartbreaking film, wife of Derek and journalist Kate Garraway, allowed cameras to document her story as the family adjust to a new way of life.

While grateful for the outpouring of sympathy towards her own situation, Kate knows she is simply going through what thousands of other families are all suffering too. And over the course of this film will meet those who have also been affected by coronavirus, from community nurse Orli, who after a year is still experiencing life changing symptoms of Long-Covid, and Julie whose husband Steve has still not regained consciousness after contracting the disease.

Coming to terms with a life very different from just twelve months ago and with never-before-seen access into the real story behind the headlines, this documentary shows a human side behind the statistics.

In 2020 Kate Garraway and her family wanted nothing more than to get her husband Derek back home. Little did she know what the reality of this meant.

This time we’re with Kate and the family from the first moments Derek arrives home, and in the build-up to Christmas 2021 - a period of considerable upheaval and uncertainty. We follow Kate as she navigates the myriad challenges of the social care system and its complexities that seem to be built in. This comes at a time when the debate about social care is at its loudest, and this film quietly shows the reality of what day to day life is like becoming a carer.

Above all, this film follows Kate as she embarks on a new chapter in her marriage and family life, attempting to find a new way of living and a new way of loving, like millions of families across the country in the very same boat.
